Today was the day of the National Youth Film Awards 2018. I hadn't expected a nomination so I am just rather thankful for this little encouragement and just being able to be present at the awards ceremony (and see my short on a big screen!)
Here's a shot from my 3 seconds of fame. Dang I wish I did a better job on that t-shirt collar.
While I didn't walk away with any awards, I was just filled with a strange sense of gladness. Much as there was so much more I wanted to do with this stop-motion short that time and resources didn't permit, it is a piece that I personally quite like.
Since I at this already, a little about my short film – hidden.
I suppose I really wanted to do something quite genuine so I started to think about what are the things that are close to my heart. And I realised – I am a major memory hoarder. I suspect that if ever that Black Mirror technology of being able to replay and even relive memories existed, I might have been inclined to use it.
Unfortunately most of my process shots were lost when my phone randomly fried itself the day after finals ended. (including a video of my friend claudia jamming to Bohemian Rhapsody at 5.30am in the morning)
so...
Here are a few of my favourite screencaps from the mini production
I am rather happy with the effect of this first scene but I think I could've done a lot better with the prop-making had I had more time! I remember rushing the portraits on the wall just a couple of days before submission.
I do like the way the room scene turned out too!
And this sunset scene: honestly started from a little accidental discover while experimenting with the dedo lights. It was insane making the paper look like breaking waves but it was well worth it.
The original submission for stop-mo mod had By the River by Stu Larsen as the soundtrack, which gives a really different feel, which is rather cool i think! And I actually do like both versions even though I was pretty reluctant to swap the soundtrack but ah well, copyright matters.

I did have a few different interpretations of the short, which turned to be really interesting!
So, let me know what you think!
