In preparation for our first Three Little Pigs dinner, we planned a trip to the Toa Payoh East night vegetable market.

the vendors are already in the midst of setting up, although it did look like they just started. There aren't many people around except for the vendors.
Piles of beautiful fresh vegetables lined up on the street.
The makeshift stalls are illuminated by fluorescent lights and the warm yellow street lights. Be it buyers or vendors, the people here seemed to be comfortable and familiar with what they were doing. There is an odd calm away from the festivities and hype of the approaching new year. My mind floats to dinner with Mum the previous day.
"我不是很饿。可能紧张新年。” (I'm not hungry. Maybe I'm nervous about the new year."
“It's just another day," said Mum in a mildly singsong voice.
Buyers expertly filter through the crates of vegetables and load their bags and boxes, and then their vehicles with the fresh produce.
Sellers place bunch after bunch of vegetables on the weighing scale, punch at the old fashioned calculator with practiced hands (or rattle off aloud their insane mental sum skills) and scribble down the accounts.
The cherry tomatoes are plump and vibrant. Packets of mushroom lie in styrofoam boxes packed with ice.
Here's a photo taken of Ber and K examining some vegetables and discussing something. It's an odd feeling. Growing up.
Also if i owned a vehicle, I would love for it to be the colour of this pickup.
Well the savings were honestly not that significant since we weren't purchasing in huge quantities, but it was definitely worth the experience and the memories.
Thankful for the breezy pickup ride home too!
The year has gone by in a blur!

Ber and I went to pick out some tableware at daiso the next day.
and We decided to take an impromptu walk along one of the streets in little india. More vibrant selections of vegetable and fruit.
The beginning of the apple spice cake!
My new years have never been particularly eventful though it was often melodramatically poignant.
But there was a certain calm and joy in that of this year.
I guess vegetable shopping with friends, cooking and taking aesthetic photos makes growing up feel a little less scary.
